If you are looking to obtain liquid nitrogen just to play - oops, I
mean experiment - with, I am thinking that you are going to find it
much too expensive and cumbersome to get any on your own. The minimum
quantity that the company that supplies my lab will sell comes in a
160L dewar that is five feet tall and weighs probably 100 lbs. It
costs ~$170 just for the nitrogen, not to mention the delivery and
cylinder rental fees. I doubt anybody is going to sell you a thermos
full.
Besides the cost, liquid nitrogen is not a toy despite what you might
have read on the internet. There is a serious risk of severe
frostbite and even death from asphyxiation. You also need the proper
equipment to handle it, else it will quickly boil away or cause a
sealed vessel to explode.
If I misread your post and you are actually someone who can handle the
above, going to local.google.com and searching for "welding supply" or
"gas supply" in Houston or Austin should give you some places to
start. Or make friends with someone who works with it and will let
