2. Choose the Size
Postcards can be big for bigger impact, or they can be small and placed in a luxurious gold envelope. Just make sure your postcard stands out.

3. Spot Colors
Just because most printers stress the wonders of modern day full color printing, does not mean you have to limit your choices. Choose a set of colors that can reflect your business brand. Pick two or three signature colors and work from there.

4. Lay-out
Make it simple and readable. People read from left to right, up and down, follow this flow. Place the most important illustration on top, followed by the headline, and the copy. Your paragraphs should be short 3 sentences at the most. The sentences should be brief and direct to the point. Use bullet points as much as possible. Leave an area for the address and the indicia, if you it won’t be placed in an envelope.

5. Write the Copy
Follow the same instructions above on structuring your paragraphs. Address your clients in the second voice instead of being aloof and impersonal. Always talk to them about their needs, and the benefits they can achieve.
Word choices should be as simple as possible. Avoid being wordy, jargons, and highfaluting language. Use highlighter quotations to highlight a point.

6. Print
Have it printed in a light board material, too thick, apart from being more expensive to print on, and too expensive to mail, might jam in some sorting machines or cannot be printed on, thin paper on the other hand tears easily. A 14pt stock is one of the best qualities.

Have it printed in ordinary semi-gloss paper, or matte paper. This paper is writable, so you can personally write the addressee’s name, and sign it in the end. There is also a higher customer response to personal letters.

7. Mail
Focus your marketing on generating bigger business from existing clients. You already know they are your demographic, what you need to do is to prod them to deepen their relationship with you. Build on the foundation of trust and loyalty and let them value your business, products and services better.

8. Evaluate
Track the success of your postcards. Indicate in the postcards that they have to present a coupon, etc. Note how many of these coupons you receive. Make a study and try different variables so you can study the response rate.

All of these ideas should point you in the right direction towards promotional postcards and towards the key to increases sales and business activity.
