Maid or Matron of Honor
A maid of honor is an unmarried woman; a matron of honor is married. Her main role is to help the bride with wedding planning. This might involve running errands, helping her select attire, addressing invitations, or making phone calls to vendors. Traditionally, she also hosts a shower or luncheon for the bride.
