Peter Berg, whose first appearance was as Dr. Billy Kronk on Chicago Hope, has come a long way from dancing to the tune of Wild Thing to getting into the directors seat and creating critically acclaimed film and shows.
Most recently, his credits include Friday Night Lights, which from a book he successfully turned into a film, and later on, a television show. Shortly before his new film, The Kingdom, starring Jaime Foxx, Chris Cooper and Jennifer Garner, opened last Friday, September 28, Berg revealed some things about his work as an executive producer for Friday Night Lights.

Berg talked to New York Magazine about producing Friday Night Lights after directing the shows pilot.

Every once in a while, Ill have an opinion on something. [For example,] theres something very dramatic and violent that happens in the first episode. The actor turned director and producer added how intense he was over the summer after facing the possibility of Friday Night Lights not returning to television.
Lets just say I was on Jeff Zuckers phone list repeatedly, he said. There wasnt a lot of subtlety. It was, ‘Jeff, you got to pick up the f***ing show. And he would say, ‘I hear you. And Id say, ‘No, Jeff, Im serious, youve got to pick up the f***ing show.
New York Magazine then asked Berg what he did after the network agreed to give the series a temporary go signal.
I sent him a bathrobe that says MR. ZUCKER, Berg replied.
The magazine then asked him about how he handled the massive stunts on his new film, The Kingdom.
Ive had every job you could have on a movie set,” Berg revealed. “I was a grip, a prop man, a stand-in, a PA. The key to big action sequences is having a vision for what you want. Way before we started, I had beers with our stunt coordinator, playing with toy cars like little kids, and Im telling him, ‘This car will hit that car, and it will swerve and twist.
Berg also added his thoughts on the films message and how it represents the Saudi Arabian society.
I hope that its pretty clear that the movie doesnt support religious extremism, but that it does support dialogue between Muslims and non-Muslims,” Berg explained. If there was a tourism department of the Saudi government, which theres not, I bet wed be getting some phone calls from them right about now. But The Kingdom presents the most optimistic and moderate portrayal of an Arab character that Ive ever seen in a film.
